Food Loose And Plastic Free

Welcome to Foodloose and Plastic Free, Cheltenham’s new loose foods and refills shop.

About us

Foodloose was born from a concern about the massive amount of plastic waste our society generates. It is only now that we are beginning to see the full extent of the damage this does to our environment. We know people are concerned about this and we want to provide the opportunity to buy food and cleaning products without trashing the earth. Working together

The project was initiated when several members from Cheltenham Green Party approached the Global Footsteps charity http://www.global-footsteps.org/ with the idea of using their premises in Cheltenham for a loose foods shop. The idea fitted well with the ethos of the charity, who have a strong Fair Trade ethic. Foodloose is run entirely by volunteers, both Green Party members and other friends,  with all profits going to the charity.

Where are we?

We are based at the Global Footsteps cafe at 16 Portland Street, just a short walk from the High Street, Pittville Street bus stops and the Portland Street car park. So we are conveniently placed whether you come by foot, public transport or car.

What are we selling?

We will be supplying a range of organic and fair-trade dried goods such as beans, seeds, dried fruit, grains and nuts. We’ll also be keeping a variety of refillable household and personal cleaning products such as washing-up liquid, toilet cleaner, shampoo and liquid soap.  Plus useful items such as wax wraps, loose toilet rolls, bamboo toothbrushes, re-useable coffee cups and much more, including a selection of deliciously scented handmade soaps and shampoo bars.

How to shop at Foodloose

Come along to the shop, preferably with your own containers – re-usable plastic boxes are ideal and could include those takeaway boxes we all feel so guilty about acquiring.  Put them to good use instead! We’ll have a stock of used boxes if you don’t have your own, and can also supply paper bags and pre-loved cotton shopping bags. If you need cleaning products bring along your empties for re-filling, including shampoo and liquid handwash bottles. We’ll soon have ordering online and by phone operational and will also be providing a delivery service for those with mobility problems.

Enjoy a cuppa, and more!

Make you visit even more enjoyable by having a cup of freshly ground coffee or choose from a range of different teas.  You can also indulge in delicious locally made vegan cupcakes. We have cafe tables in the shop and more space coming soon in a lovely upstairs room, which will also be available to book for groups, meetings and courses.  Wifi is available.
